Practicing Selah

Practicing Selah { say•lah } : pause in the reflection of truth to practice surrendering. “Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
:|: God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes,
though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas;
though its waters roar and are troubled,
though the mountains tremble with their swelling.

Practicing Selah
:|: There is a river, the streams of which make the city of God glad,
the holy place of the tents of the Most High.
God is within her. She shall not be moved.
God will help her at dawn.
The nations raged. The kingdoms were moved.
He lifted his voice and the earth melted.
The LORD of Hosts is with us.
The God of Jacob is our refuge.
Selah
:|: Come, see the Lord’s works,
what desolations he has made in the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth.
He breaks the bow, and shatters the spear.
He burns the chariots in the fire.
“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted amongst the nations.
I will be exalted in the earth.”
The LORD of Hosts is with us.
The God of Jacob is our refuge.

:|: Pause. Reflect. Practice. Pause, be still and know. Make space for yourself, for your beautiful heart, your brilliant mind, and your bodacious soul to have rest no matter what the day brings. Close your eyes. Breathe deep and reflect in the truth, that you are loved beyond measure and you are a priceless treasure. There are times when it feels like you can’t catch your breath or breathe deep. This is an opportunity to be still and know.
:|: How to Practice Selah
1• Comfortably sit upright or lie on your back to draw the spine long from base of tailbone through the crown the head. Smooth out the face. Soften the brows and unhinge the bottom jaw from the top.
2• Soften the shoulders from the ears. Tuck the chin to open the back of the neck with the chin parallel to the floor. Softly close your eyes.
3• Gently press the tongue upward into the roof of the mouth while keeping a space open in the palette. Swallow, clearing space for the breath. Eyes still closed, move them in all directions to floss out any viewpoint other than compassion, grace, and patience for yourself.
4• Breathe deep. Notice how it feels to be gentle with yourself. Rinse the belly out drawing the breath in and down. Watch the heart lift and open in response to wisdom of the breath.
5• Girl you got this! Be still and know God has you.
6• Practice surrendering in the reflection of the truth. Become a witness to yourself watching what shows up. Become curious about what you are thinking and how you are feeling. Follow each thought to completion. Breathing slow deep breaths anchor you when emotions arise that feel like they could sweep you away. Stay with your breath, for it is the essence of God that was breathed into you at Creation.
